Sustainability is a core value of many institutions’ identity. But what does sustainability mean in a research context? How do CIIMAR and CCMAR practice and promote sustainability? In this seminar each speaker will give an overview of the institutional approach to sustainability and open the conversation on “how can we make sustainable research and research centres” and on “how can green certification assist in funding applications?”.
About the Speakers
Inês Matos, biochemist with a MSc in Applied Biology and a postgraduate in Scientific Illustration, works as a Sustainability Technician at CIIMAR and teaches at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, having also taught at FCUP. Has worked has a researcher at FCUP and University of Copenhagen, coordinated NGOs and social impact projects, cofounded and is Graphic Editorial Chief of book publisher desmuro, co-author and/or editor of six books, has published two papers and has over 20 communications in scientific conferences.
Ana Margarida Amaral holds a PhD in Marine Biology and 15 years of experience in research management and scientific infrastructures at CCMAR. She coordinates access to CCMAR’s research infrastructure and services within European projects supporting transnational access, engaging with industry and academia and serves as Liaison Officer at EMBRC Portugal. Her work focuses on enabling access to marine research infrastructures, ensuring compliance with regulatory, ethical, and research integrity standards, contributing to sustainability aligned with European Green Deal in research.
