Diving into the unknown: shedding light on ocean processes and dynamics

The vast expanse of the Ocean, spanning 70% of our planet's surface, harbours an astonishing array of life and ecosystems. Beyond its scenic beauty, the Ocean plays a pivotal role in shaping Earth's climate and regulating the carbon cycle. From food, transport, and resources to cultural and leisure activities, it provides us with countless benefits.

Yet, despite its immense importance, the Ocean remains largely unknown. We still do not understand much about how it works or how it reacts to changes and threats. As we face the challenges of a rapidly changing environment, it's more important than ever to protect and preserve the Ocean for its many benefits.

Understanding

drivers of global environmental change

Unlocking the secrets of the vast ocean system is our passion at CCMAR. We delve deep to understand the intricate dynamics and processes that shape our Ocean across various scales of space, time, and organization.

From the poles to the equator

We're fascinated by the world beneath the waves, studying everything from the small wonders of local coastal areas to the vast mysteries of the global ocean. We believe that big challenges like climate change and invasive species require a global approach, which is why our research takes us from the icy poles to the sunny equator. At CCMAR, our mission is to conduct comprehensive, impactful research that knows no geographical boundaries.

A research journey through time

Our research explores the realms of the past, present, and future. From deciphering immediate cellular reactions to unveiling oceanic processes spanning decades, centuries, or even millennia, we unravel the mysteries of the past, discover the intricacies of the present, and predict the potential scenarios of the future.

Studying the complexity of marine life

Our research is truly diverse, spanning a wide organisational scale. We delve into the fascinating world of small molecules and genes of marine organisms, as well as the complex marine ecosystems and the sophisticated interactions between living things that occur within them.
