Collaborations to elevate science
Our partners are an integral part of our mission. At CCMAR we work every day to enrich our research network through collaborations that bring different perspectives, expertise and resources. Together, we cultivate innovation and drive scientific discovery.
Internationalisation is in our DNA
Our reputation extends globally. We are part of extensive global networks with key partners, integrating institutions, organisations, companies and policy-makers, and we remain open to new partnerships. We have a multicultural approach with a diverse team, 62 per cent of whom have studied abroad, with training that involves international co-supervision, and as part of various research infrastructures such as EMBRC and EMSO.
Strategic Partners
CIMAR-LA
Our associated laboratory
Created in 2002, CIMAR-LA is an associated laboratory that unites CCMAR and CIIMAR. Our aim is to attract top researchers, promote collaboration and increase international prominence. Contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the European Green Deal and national and regional strategies, CIMAR-LA aligns itself with public policies on the environment, social equality, research, the economy and education.
Together, we understand, protect and sustainably exploit the full potential of marine and aquatic ecosystems through multidisciplinary research, innovation and advanced training.
Our host organisation
The University of the Algarve (UAlg) is our main host organisation, as most of our facilities and offices are located on the UAlg Gambelas campus.
Our strategic partnership with UAlg dates back to the creation of our centre, when university professors established their research groups at CCMAR. Over time, the two institutions have developed joint research projects and higher education programmes (doctorate, master's and bachelor's degrees), through which CCMAR has integrated thousands of students into its research teams and laboratories.
Our partnership for marine studies
CCMAR has a strategic partnership with IPMA (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera), a public institute with responsibilities in the field of the sea and atmosphere.
IPMA hosts several CCMAR researchers at its facilities in Lisbon and Olhão. Both institutions regularly host doctoral theses and are partners in research projects.
Collaborations
For scientific innovation in algae
GreenCoLab is a platform for collaboration between research and industry, of which we are a partner. Its aim is to develop algae-based production for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and animal feed, diversifying the industry and contributing to soil recovery, carbon sequestration and wastewater treatment. CCMAR, for its part, is advancing research into algae, exploring bioactive compounds and developing rapid methods for isolating microalgae with biotechnological potential.
Optimising marine products
We are proud to be one of the partner members of S2AQUAcoLAB, which carries out research into optimising production, identifying health and well-being markers, adapting to climate change and developing new products to diversify the market.
