On Wednesday, the 20th of May, CCMAR Seminar will feature Gokulakrishnan Marisami, PhD Student at IRTA, Spain, presenting “Brewer's Spent Grain Protein: A Potential Alternative for Soy in Aquafeeds.

In this seminar, Gokulakrishnan will present the potential of brewer’s spent grain (BSG) protein isolate as a sustainable alternative to soy protein concentrate (SPC) in aquafeeds. The session will showcase pilot-scale production of BSG protein isolate and its application in aquaculture nutrition.

The seminar will highlight growth performance, digestibility, and physiological responses of two model fish species: rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), a freshwater carnivore, and gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata), a marine omnivore - to graded dietary replacement of SPC with BSG protein isolate.

Drawing from his research on sustainable feed innovation, Gokulakrishnan will discuss how green technologies and circular bioeconomy approaches can contribute to the future of aquaculture nutrition.

About the Speaker

Gokulakrishnan Marisami is a Predoc Researcher at IRTA, Spain, working on protein extraction and functionalization from brewer’s spent grain using green technologies for sustainable aquaculture nutrition.
