Luis M Botana_1305_Seminar

Next Wednesday, the 13th of May, CCMAR Seminar will feature Luis M. Botana, Principal Investigator and Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

In this session titled “The Need to Update the Toxicological Information About Marine Toxins”, Luis Botana will discuss the significant advances made in the toxicology of marine toxins over the past decades, while addressing how biased or incomplete scientific information has influenced current regulatory frameworks.

The seminar will explore key examples ranging from sodium channel toxins to phosphatase inhibitors, highlighting how some of the scientific evidence underpinning current European legislation remains open to debate. Drawing from decades of research in pharmacology, toxicology, and marine toxin detection, Luis will share his perspective on the need for updated scientific evidence to support more robust regulatory decisions.
