Next Wednesday, the 29th of April, CCMAR Seminar will feature João Monteiro, PhD student at the University of Algarve and CCMAR, presenting From Science to Policy: Managing the Green Crab Fishery. This seminar will be a training session ahead of his PhD defence in May 14th and will showcase an interdisciplinary study on the green crab (Carcinus maenas) fishery in Portugal. Integrating biological aspects such as population dynamics, growth, and reproduction, alongside fishing gear characteristics including catches and selectivity, and socioeconomic patterns, the research aims to propose management measures that support the sustainability of this traditional fishery.
About the Speaker
João Nuno Monteiro is a PhD student at the University of Algarve studying the green crab fishery to improve management of this traditional activity. His main research areas are carcinology, marine ecology, and fisheries.
