Inês Ferreira Guedes is a marine biologist and science communicator who has just joined CCMAR’s newly created Ocean Education Unit. Passionate about Ocean Literacy, she brings national and international recognition - including being an EU Young Ocean Advocate and a SOA Ocean Leader. Her experience includes representing Portugal as a guest speaker at the European Commission’s “Missão Oceano” event during the 2022 UN Ocean Conference. She will be working with Rita Costa Abecasis and Gonçalo Brito, welcome Inês!

Tell us a bit about the work you'll be doing at CCMAR:
Inês: I’ll be joining the Ocean Education Unit as a Science Communicator and Outreach Officer, helping to transform CCMAR’s research into engaging stories. From events to social media, I’ll work to connect people with the ocean and show how marine science can make a difference.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love spending time in nature with my family and friends. The ocean is my special place — I enjoy sailing and long days at the beach (yes, I’m definitely a warm-weather person!). I also love dancing and doing theatre.
What were you doing before you joined us?
Before joining CCMAR, I was a science communicator at Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, where every day was about finding creative ways to bring science and technology closer to people. I focused on promoting Ocean Literacy and inspiring others to connect with and care for this blue planet.
