Meet Angelina Freitas, new IMBRSea intern student in the OC2 group.
Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR
I am currently working on my master’s thesis, which aims to reconstruct the evolution of temperature and nutrient availability over the last millennium along the southern coast of Portugal. The work is based on a multi-proxy approach, which utilises the geochemical analysis of cold-water corals and planktonic and benthic foraminifera from previously dated marine sediments. This research aims to provide a better understanding of past climate variability and the role of anthropogenic activity in the sustainability of marine resources.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
In my spare time, I enjoy listening to music, going for long walks by the sea and doing Pilates. I also enjoy quiet moments spent reading, preferably with a coffee on a terrace, so I can make the most of the weather and the outdoor atmosphere.
What were you doing before you joined us?
Before joining CCMAR, I undertook the Erasmus Mundus IMBRSea Master’s programme in Marine Biological Resources, an international programme that enabled me to study at the University of the Algarve (Faro), the University of Oviedo (Spain) and the Sorbonne University (France). Throughout this journey, I acquired multidisciplinary skills in ecology, marine resources, scientific research methods and data analysis.
