On 26 June, CCMAR welcomed a visit from the Director-General for Maritime Policy, Marisa Lameiras da Silva, accompanied by the Director of Programme and Funding Services, Rute Assis Pires.
The aim of the visit was to gain a first-hand understanding of the scientific work carried out by CCMAR, as well as some of its key strategic initiatives in the fields of marine research, innovation and the blue economy.
The session began with an institutional presentation of the centre, during which CCMAR’s mission, vision and key strategic areas were discussed, along with its network of national and international partners and OMA.CCMAR – the Algarve Marine Observatory.
This was followed by a presentation of CCMAR’s research groups, showcasing the diversity of the scientific work carried out at the centre. During this session, projects funded under the EEA Grants were also presented, along with various research initiatives in the fields of sustainability, the blue economy, fisheries, aquaculture, marine biotechnology, oceanography and public maritime policy.
The visit also included a tour of the CCMAR laboratories, providing direct contact with researchers, technical teams and scientific facilities dedicated to the fields of Fisheries, Biodiversity and Conservation, Marine Biotechnology and Aquaculture, including the LEOA – Experimental Laboratory.
