The Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) invites ambitious researchers to express their interest in joining our dynamic research community and developing independent, high-quality projects in the field of marine sciences.
We are particularly interested in early-career scientists with a strong publication record, a clear vision for their research, and a motivation to contribute to cutting-edge, interdisciplinary projects in one or more of CCMAR’s Research Thematic Lines:

  1. Global Environmental Changes
Understanding the impacts of climate change, pollution, and other global drivers on marine ecosystems, and developing strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
  2. Ocean Management and Conservation
Advancing marine spatial planning, biodiversity protection, fisheries sustainability, and policy advice for effective ocean governance.
  3. Marine Products and Resources
Exploring marine organisms, resources, and biotechnological applications to develop sustainable products and solutions for human benefit.

Who should apply
We welcome postdoctoral and early-career researchers who aim to establish their independence and apply to competitive calls to achieve it (e.g., FCT CEEC Ind call; new call planned by the end of 2025), with CCMAR as the host institution. Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant field, a record of peer-reviewed publications, and the ability to work collaboratively in an international environment.

What we offer

  • Integration into a vibrant, multidisciplinary marine science centre in southern Portugal.
  • Access to state-of-the-art research facilities, fieldwork platforms, and support services.
  • Mentorship and guidance in preparing competitive grant applications.
  • A collaborative and inclusive working environment that values initiative and innovation, and work-life balance.

How to express your interest
Please send the following documents to ccmarfunding@ualg.pt, until the 14th of November:

  1. Motivation letter (max. 2 pages) outlining your research vision and alignment with one or more CCMAR research lines.
  2. Short CV (max. 3 pages) highlighting publications, funding experience, and relevant skills.

Join us at CCMAR and contribute to advancing knowledge, innovation, and sustainable solutions for our oceans.

Please note that this is a call for expressions of interest only; no employment contract is offered at this stage.
