We are pleased to announce the XVI Reunião Ibérica sobre Microalgas Nocivas e Biotoxinas Marinhas (REDIBAL 2026), which will take place from 27 to 29 May 2026, organised by CCMAR – University of Algarve.
The meeting will bring together researchers and other professionals linked to marine sciences in the Iberian Peninsula to discuss the impacts of harmful microalgae and marine biotoxins on aquaculture, fisheries and coastal tourism, promoting the exchange of scientific knowledge and the adoption of good practices in the monitoring and management of these phenomena.
Programme (coming soon)
Registration (free until 6 April – or until capacity is reached)
Abstract submission (until 6 April) – it is important to mention if you are a student (and attach proof) to be eligible for the best student presentation award.
Abstract submission details
When submitting the abstract, participants must select the thematic session that best fits their work.
Session 1 – Climate change and global trends
Impact of climate change and environmental factors on the proliferation of toxic microalgae, emerging species and biotoxin production.
Session 2 – New toxins and emerging toxins
Identification of new toxins, detection of producing organisms and study of trophic bioaccumulation in marine organisms.
Session 3 – Impacts of toxic microalgae and biotoxins
Impact of toxic microalgae and biotoxins on marine ecosystems and organisms.
Session 4 – Biotechnological applications of biotoxins
Use of biotoxins (or bioactive compounds) in biotechnology, pharmacology and the development of bioindicators, including potential therapeutic and industrial applications.
Session 5 – Monitoring, mitigation and decision support
Monitoring, regulation and analysis of biotoxins in bivalves, using data science, modelling and intelligent systems to predict blooms, contamination and support decisions in harvesting, aquaculture and public health.
Social event: 29 May, 2.30 p.m.
Technicians Luís Santo and Jorge Manhita will be giving a guided tour of Faro's historic centre and the Municipal Museum of Faro - visits will be free of charge.
Closing dinner
On 29 May at 7 p.m., a closing dinner will be held for meeting participants. Attendance at the dinner is optional and the cost will be borne by the participants themselves.
More information about the venue and cost of the dinner will be available shortly.
