Senne has joined CCMAR and will be working with morphological and geochemical analysis of foraminifera specimens and Scanning Electron Microscopy with chemical analysis for imaging studies, all aimed at unraveling their responses to our changing climate. Welcome to the team!

Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.
My internship at CCMAR focuses on understanding how rising atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, caused by climate change, affect marine life, particularly planktonic foraminifera. My work involves morphological and geochemical analysis of foraminifera specimens and Scanning Electron Microscopy with chemical analysis for imaging studies, all aimed at unraveling their responses to our changing climate.

What were you doing before you joined us?
My academic journey began in Belgium, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Biology at UHasselt with a semester of Erasmus at ULisboa in Portugal. Now, I'm charting a course through the IMBRSea program, a joint master's program in which I travel to a different country every semester to study Marine Biology.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I'm not in the classroom or lab, I enjoy spending time with my dog, maintaining my home aquarium, listening to music, and catching up with friends. And, of course, I love being in and around the ocean!
