Joana Pinto da Silva has developed her academic and scientific career in the field of biomedical sciences, with a particular focus on drug delivery systems and innovative strategies to prevent respiratory infections. As a PhD student at the University of Algarve and a member of the Drug Delivery Lab, her research has centred on the development of inhalable formulations designed to enhance immune responses through pulmonary administration.
Throughout her doctoral journey, Joana has explored the potential of bacterial lysates as immunomodulators, investigating their application as dry powder formulations for respiratory delivery. Her work combines pharmaceutical development, immunology, and pulmonary drug delivery, with the aim of creating novel preventive approaches against respiratory infections. As part of her training, she also conducted research at the University of Navarra, further strengthening the international dimension of her work.
She is now preparing to reach an important milestone in her academic journey with the defence of her PhD thesis, entitled:
Repurposing bacterial lysates as immunomodulators for pulmonary administration as a strategy in prevention of respiratory infections
This research contributes to the development of innovative immunisation strategies and highlights the potential of pulmonary delivery platforms to improve the prevention of respiratory diseases.

Let’s support Joana at this important moment in her scientific career!
