Ana Cláudia Nunes Rato is a researcher in Marine Biology with an academic background built at the University of Algarve, where she completed her Bachelor's in Marine Biology (2010) and Masters in Marine Biology (2013). She has been enrolled in the PhD in Biological Sciences since 2020 and is currently a research fellow at the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), Olhão.
Her scientific work focuses on chemical communication in marine organisms, with particular emphasis on olfaction, pheromonal and hormonal signalling, predation, and wastewater-related environmental interactions. She has authored 14 scientific articles, contributed to a book chapter, and participated in multiple research projects, building a strong collaborative network with over 100 co-authors across her scientific output.
She is now preparing to reach an important milestone in her academic journey with the defence of her PhD thesis, entitled:
Chemical communication in bivalves: hormonal and pheromonal roles
Her research contributes to a deeper understanding of chemical signalling mechanisms in bivalves and their ecological and physiological roles in marine environments.

Let’s support Ana at this important moment in her scientific career!
