Project Summary
In this study, "endosymbiomes" were discovered in sponges such as Spongia officinalis, with sophisticated antiviral defenses, potential for unique biosynthesis of natural products, capability to utilize nutrients and detoxify, and ease of microbe-microbe and host-microbe gene transfer.
