Abstract Submission - XXII Congress of the Portuguese Ethological Society
We welcome submissions on all questions of Ethology (function, causation, development and evolution) as well as areas related with animal behaviour (e.g. cognition, welfare, behavioural ecology, etc) on all animal taxa.
The conference will accept contributions in two formats: oral presentations and posters.
Presenting authors need to be registered as participants.
The submission of oral or poster communications is until July 18th. NEW DEADLINE: July 27th

Invited speakers:
Nicola Clayton (University of Cambridge, UK)
Nicola Clayton is Professor of Comparative Cognition at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of the Royal Society. Her research explores intelligence in non-verbal animals and pre-verbal children. She is also Scientist in Residence at Rambert, collaborating on science-inspired dance works. With artist Clive Wilkins, she co-founded The Captured Thought, exploring memory, imagination, and identity. Clayton holds visiting and honorary professorships in China and is President of the Psychology Section of the British Science Association.
Sandra Trigo (CIBIO, Portugal)
Sandra Trigo is an assistant researcher at the Biopolis Association, CIBIO/InBIO, University of Porto, and a guest assistant professor at the University of Porto. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Aveiro, followed by a master's and PhD in Ecology at the University of Coimbra. Her main research interests have focused on sexual selection signals and mechanisms underlying the modulation of animal behaviour.
José Ricardo Paula (MARE / Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal
José Ricardo Paula is a behavioural biologist fascinated by the intricacies of social interactions in nature. He is a LaCaixa Junior Group Leader at MARE-Lisbon. Much of his research has focused on cleaner fish, which provide a valuable service to other species by removing parasites and dead tissue from their skin. He is particularly interested in the relevance of animal cognition at the ecosystem level, how species interact and how their behaviour and cognition evolve.
Abstract submission guidelines and format
Submissions should include the following information:
- Name and affiliation of the authors (including email), indicating the presenting author.
- Title of the communication.
- Abstract (maximum 250 words).
- Indication of preference for oral presentation or poster. Keywords related to your research (2-5 words)
- The title and abstract should be written in English.
- Authors will receive information by email in mid September regarding the acceptance of the communication and whether it has been selected for oral or poster presentation. The final acceptance of communications depends on the presenting author having completed their registration (including proof of payment).
