Summary
Hungarian aquaculture is largely dominated by pond culture of common carp, while African catfish production has increased significantly in recent decades. One of the main challenges facing the sector is the development of affordable, accessible, efficient, and sustainable aquafeeds.
At the same time, aquaculture systems must respond to multiple pressures associated with climate change, making feed formulation and management increasingly important. In this seminar, Dr. Sándor will present key challenges in freshwater fish nutrition and discuss potential intervention strategies and innovative feed approaches, including alternative ingredients and sustainable solutions for aquaculture.
About the Speaker
Dr. Sándor’s research focuses on the nutrition and physiology of freshwater fish, including the use of alternative protein and oil sources in aquafeeds. Her work also explores how environmental conditions and nutrition influence fish meat quality and safety.
