Pharmacist and PhD researcher focused on cardiovascular biomarkers

My name is Catarina Marreiros and I am a pharmacist and PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Algarve (UAlg), supported by a Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) scholarship.

I completed my Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2017 at UAlg. My doctoral research focuses on the development of novel biomarkers for cardiovascular disease risk assessment. In particular, I study Gla-rich protein (GRP), a vitamin K-dependent protein, investigating its role in vascular calcification and its clinical relevance in chronic kidney disease.

My work involves the analysis of circulating GRP levels in clinical populations and the establishment of reference values in healthy individuals, aiming to improve cardiovascular risk stratification.
