As a Chemical Oceanographer with a Master in Analytical Chemistry and a Doctor in Environmental Sciences, my professional journey has encompassed diverse academic and research environments. Presently, I serve as a Doctoral Researcher at the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) situated in Algés - Lisbon, while concurrently affiliated with the Oceanography and Climate Change Research Group (OC2) at the Centre for Marine Sciences (CCMAR). Over the course of my career, I have engaged with various national and international universities, research institutes, and environmental consulting firms, contributing to advancements in the field of environmental sciences.
My primary research interests lie in marine organic biogeochemistry, paleoproductivity, paleoceanography, and marine environmental monitoring. Within the purview of the OC2 group/CCMAR, I am spearheading the implementation of two novel research initiatives, both centered on paleoproductivity investigation:
1. Investigation of Marine Paleoproductivity through Lipid Biomarkers and Assessment of Climate Change Impacts: This endeavor aims to scrutinize lipid signatures indicative of primary productivity and assess how primary productivity responded in upwelling systems along the Iberian Margin during extreme climatic variations, such as the Little Ice Age and the Medieval Climate Anomaly.
2. Evaluation of Wildfire Influence on the Primary Productivity of the Iberian Margin over the Last Millennium: This research initiative involves the development and calibration of chemical biomarkers (e.g., levoglucosan, black carbon, and PAHs) in conjunction with charcoal data and remote sensing techniques to ascertain the impact of wildfires on primary productivity dynamics along the Iberian Margin in the modern ocean and over the last certuries.
I extend an invitation to prospective students and collaborators to engage in these endeavors, fostering collaborative partnerships and knowledge exchange in pursuit of scientific advancement.
