New on Board: Nuno Padrão

Nuno Padrão is joining the CCMAR Scientific Diving Center, supporting the activities that this unit is carrying on.
Welcome on board, Nuno!

Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.
I'll be mainly helping scientists increase their abilities and capacity when it comes to working underwater by offering through and high quality SCUBA diving education. The curriculum to be taught will be from the very beginnings to advanced diving and scientific diving. I hope to help increase the capacity to give response to the requests for high quality training, which unfortunately is lacking in industry of diving, and more so when it comes to scientific diving. Hopefully such work will also allow to expand the scope of the CCMAR Scientific Diving Center, helping to create a logistic platform, with competent human resources, allowing CCMAR to reach out to other scientific organizations, and offer conditions of excelente for both training and research.

What were you doing before you joined us?
I was already working as a diving instructor, managing a watersports center and working as a scientific diver when requested by specific projects I have been involved along the years. Working outdoors has always been something that attracted me, but more then anything teaching and educating is in reality what has been a constant through my professional life.

What interests and hobbies do you enjoy when you are not doing science?
Well to tell the truth, they are many and varied, from obviously scuba diving, to climbing, windsurfing, sailing, dancing, reading, cycling. I'm mostly and outdoors person and when I have the time I like to take full advantage of it.
