I was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and with two years old I came to live in Portugal. I graduated in Aquatic Sciences in 2001 (ICBAS, University of Porto) and completed my degree with a thesis in fish nutrition at INRA, St. Pée-sur-Nivelle, under the theme: “Glucids utilization by turbot”. My first work was as food safety consultant. In 2005, I completed my MSc in Food Technology and Quality at New University of Lisbon, with a thesis on “Food quality control associated with the production of smoked products”. From October 2003 until the end of 2006 I worked as a marine and environmental educator at Lisbon Oceanarium. In 2007 I came to work to CCMAR in an EU funded project (SEACASE) coordinated by the Aquaculture Research Group. Since 2011, I am working on my PhD project, at CCMAR, addressing “Farmed fish as a functional food: fortification strategies with health valuable compounds” under the supervision of Professor Maria Teresa Dinis (CCMAR), Dr. Jorge Dias (SPAROS) and Engª Maria Leonor Nunes (IPMA).
