The Environment Secretary of State, Humberto Rosa, and the Agriculture and Fisheries Assistant Secretary of State, Luís Vieira, presided on 20th May, at 15.30 in the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the opening session of a conference referring to the European Sea Day.

The meeting, organized by Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e Biodiversidade (ICNB), aims to convey the commitment and political message about the importance of the oceans sustainability and marine biodiversity, highlighting in particular the extension process of Natura 2000 extension network to marine environment.

During this conference will be presented the results of two ongoing LIFE-Nature projects, in which ICNB is one of the partners and co-financier. The project IBA (Important Bird Areas) Marine, presented by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds, and Biomares project, whose results will be presented by the Centre of Marine Sciences - CCMAR.
