I'm a paleoceanographer studying intermediate-depth (thermocline) ocean conditions driven by both human activity and natural climate changes. For that, I perform chemical analysis of living and fossil cold-water corals and other carbonate organisms. I have a Master in Marine Biology from the University of Lisbon and a Doctoral degree in Natural Sciences from the Bremen University. I've been involved in +10 research projects, having obtained funding as (co)proponent/PI for five projects exploiting cold-water coral geochemistry to investigate past Atlantic thermocline waters' nutrient content, temperature, acidification, lead-pollution entrainment and hypoxia. Besides research, I love talking about science both in scientific meetings and (most specially) to the general public.
