Sustainable and Climate Resilient Aquaculture
Sustainable Development Goals defined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to account for predicted global environmental changes. To move towards a more sustainable and climate resilient aquaculture, we are increasing scientific knowledge and improving research capacities related to this sector, particularly on:
- The production of low trophic species;
- Improving knowledge and control of the biological lifecycle;
- Sustainable strategies to minimize environmental impact.
This will be possible through prospecting the biological potential of new low trophic species and their technological constraints, developing models and systems reinforcing a circular economy approach, increasing the biological resilience through nutritional and genetic tools while maximizing animal welfare and health. Our research outputs are transferred to the aquaculture sector, with whom CCMAR is working closely in order to stimulate the blue economy and contribute to societal challenges.
