New PhD candidate: Giulia Molina

Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.
In my PhD project, I will utilize sediment samples from the IODP Site U1387, collected in the Gulf of Cadiz. In these samples, I will analyze benthic foraminifera assemblages and multiproxy approach aiming to reconstruct oxygen levels, productivity, and bottom current velocity at the southern Portuguese margin over the interval between 790-1100 ky.

What were you doing before you join us?
Before joining the CCMAR I was a master’s student at the University of São Paulo, in Brazil. During my master's, I studied the size variation of a coccolithophore species and its relation to the paleoproductivity and paleotemperature changes during the last 135 kyr in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and going to the beach. Once I am at home, I like reading detective novels or mystery thrillers, it makes me stop thinking about work. In other occasions, I also like to travel and study about the place I am travelling to.
