New on Board: Maria Scheel
Tell us a bit about the work you will be doing at CCMAR.
I will analyse RNA sequencing data to see, if elevated temperatures changed the gene expression regulation in macroalgae, which means checking how these plants react under thermal stress.
What were you doing before you joined us?
I finished my intl. M.Sc. degree in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at the CCMAR this summer with a thesis on transcriptomics on Arctic copepods under Climate Change settings. Before that my B.Sc. focussed on Biochemistry.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Apart from being passionate about the Arctic, dancing is my everything! I know and love to share my energy for Caribbean dances like Dancehall and Soca and sameway music to make us swing!
