New on Board: Lucas Martínez Ramirez
Lucas Martinez Ramirez is joining the Minouw Project team during next months.
Tell us a bit about the work you’ll be doing at CCMAR.
During the next 5 months I’m going to work under the supervision of Dr. Margarida Castro in the MINOUW project. My aim will be the improvement of the trap fishery of Nephrops, which can be a key element for the
future panorama of exploitation on the coasts of Portugal.
What were you doing before you joined us?
Recently, I just completed my master degree on Water and Coastal management, an Erasmus Mundus Programme between the universities of Algarve, Bologna and Cádiz. During the last year of the master, I successfully carried out my thesis on “Nephrops behaviour pattern in baited traps of the Portuguese creel fleet”.
What are your interests and hobbies when you’re not doing science?
I’m from Puerto Real, a little town next to Cádiz with very similar environments to Faro and the Ria Formosa. In Praia de Faro I enjoy a very similar atmosphere and, on my days off, I flee to the west coast to do some surfing.
