European Maritime Day 2019
The European Maritime Day 2019 edition was dedicated to “Blue Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Investment”, where the priorities to work on in the coming years were discussed. CCMAR marked its presence with a stand at EMD Blue Expo, allowing the dissemination of information and the opportunity of make multiple contacts with stakeholders.
Our researcher, João Saraiva, was invited as an expert for the workshop panel “Aquaculture and the Social Acceptability Challenge”, where he talked about Fish Welfare. Of the 12 proposed topics that were voted, Fish Welfare came in second place which left the researcher pleased “It is very curious to see the interest of industry and consumers to ally themselves with scientific research to improve the welfare of fish in aquaculture.” With about 60 seats available, the room was sold out with the presence of 120 participants.
The event took place at the Lisbon Congress Centre, during the 16th and 17th of May, and was organized by the European Commission, Ministry of the Sea and Câmara Municipal de Lisboa.
This year, European Maritime Day marked its record by achieving about 1500 participants from more than 60 countries and also registered the biggest exhibition recorded so far with 105 exhibitors.
