Ref. ª: CCMAR/BPD/01/2022

The Centre for Marine Sciences (CCMAR) opens a position for one (01) Post-Doctoral Fellowship (BPD -  Bolsa de Pós-Doutoramento) for applicants of any nationality, including stateless candidates, and holders of political refugee statute, in the field of Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences or related area within the research project: PTDC/BIA-CBI/6515/2020, named as “The Paris Agreement and the global redistribution of marine biodiversity” – PARIS, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P./MCTES through national funding nacionais (PIDDAC) under the following conditions:

Host and Contracting Institution: CCMAR

Work Plan, Tasks and Objectives:

Project PARIS aims to address the central research question of what will be the consequences of future climate changes to global marine biodiversity. The groundbreaking approach is to (1) estimate global connectivity patterns for major biodiversity groups, and (2) link projected distributional shifts with dispersal potential under global change scenarios. Analyses will compare present-day patterns with contrasting future scenarios (e.g., Paris Agreement expectations vs. business as usual) to provide key information for IPCC impact assessments, for the prosecution of the Sustainable Development Goals 9, 13 and 14 of the 2030 Agenda, and for well-informed conservation and management policies (e.g., Aichi targets and similar initiatives).

Specifically, the fellowship holder will be involved in the following tasks and objectives:

1. To use big data analysis already developed by the team’s project to produce high-resolution (spatial and temporal) estimates of marine biodiversity connectivity at global scales.

2. To use network analyses (graph theory) pipelines developed by the team’s project to allow connectivity visualization (e.g., between regions / countries) and depicting the major oceanographic regions and barriers.

3. To participate in the project dissemination by writing scientific papers, presentations and reports.
